At Macropaver, we’re proud to work with companies that don’t just build roads—they pave the way for innovation in the pavement preservation industry. One of those standout companies is Morsky Construction Ltd. (MCL), based in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Led by General Manager Allan Barilla, Morsky has been a fixture in Canadian infrastructure since 1982. Over four decades, the company has evolved from earthwork and base construction into a trusted leader in full-scale road rehabilitation, including micro surfacing, sub-base stabilization, and asphalt applications.
Innovators from the Start
MCL has always been driven by the pursuit of better methods and better results. They were early adopters of milling and recycling technologies, investing in Wirtgen 2500 remixers as far back as the year 2000 to strengthen and stabilize worn-out roadways. That spirit of innovation would carry them into the micro surfacing arena just a few years later.
By 2005, with paving prices in a slump and increased competition in the traditional market, Morsky sought new opportunities. They identified micro surfacing as an under-served need in Saskatchewan and decided to dive in—despite having no prior experience in the process.
What made them successful? According to Barilla:
“We knew the only way to compete was to run the best, most reliable, highest-production equipment out there.”
And that’s exactly what they did—investing in two new VSS 12B truck-mounted Macropavers, paired with extensive VSS training and support.
Building a Fleet and a Reputation
Since that first investment, Morsky Construction has grown its micro surfacing fleet to six truck-mounted Macropaver units, including the memorable 2008 “ConExpo Flame” edition. These machines became the backbone of their preservation efforts, year after year. But the team didn’t stop there.
For years, MCL waited for the next leap forward in productivity—a continuous-run micro surfacing machine that could outperform even their already-efficient fleet. That wait ended in 2023, when Morsky became the first contractor to take delivery of the Macropaver CR, the newest innovation from VSS.
Record-Setting Results with the Macropaver CR
In its first full season of operation in 2024, the Macropaver CR proved its worth.
Even with a shortened season due to weather delays and mechanical challenges, MCL delivered a record-breaking production year, laying:
Over 5,000 tonnes of emulsion
Roughly 46,000 tonnes of aggregate
All of this was completed in their home province of Saskatchewan under contracts from the Government of Saskatchewan for provincial highways.
The Macropaver CR didn’t just meet expectations—it exceeded them, with production advantages felt right from Day 1. And as a true development partner, Morsky has worked closely with the VSS team to fine-tune the CR’s performance, making real-world upgrades and improvements that benefit all future users.
Why Macropaver?
For Morsky, the difference comes down to reliability, support, and results in the field. Their experienced crew—many of whom have worked with other manufacturers—are quick to point out the “VSS difference.”
As Barilla shared, “Our guy that does the mixing has worked for companies using other manufacturers' equipment. He knows the VSS difference.”
A Culture of Excellence
MCL’s commitment goes beyond machines. The company takes pride in being a responsible and respected player in the road construction space. Their emphasis on quality, training, and equipment maintenance has earned them trust at the government level—and helped micro surfacing grow in acceptance and budget allocation across Saskatchewan.
They maintain all their equipment rigorously in the off-season, understanding that downtime during a short season can be costly. This dedication to performance and reliability has positioned Morsky as a go-to contractor in the region.
Final Thoughts
At Macropaver, we’re honored to partner with forward-thinking companies like Morsky Construction Ltd.—contractors who embrace change, invest in their crews, and deliver quality projects that improve communities.
MCL’s record-setting success with the Macropaver CR is just the beginning. With more work already lined up for 2025, the team is poised to break even more records and help shape the future of micro surfacing in North America.
